Isostatic mold sizing
Enter the green part you want, either the fill and green densities or your measured shrinkage, and the mold’s wall and end plugs. The tool gives the cavity, the mold’s outer size, the powder to fill, which PressPro™ chambers the mold fits, and the force each needs for your pressure.
Shrinkage from
Process
From densities: every length of the cavity = part length ÷ (fill density ÷ green density)1/3, which assumes uniform shrinkage; real parts do not shrink uniformly, so press a test part and correct the mold from the measured shrinkage in each direction. Measured shrinkage is (mold − part) ÷ mold. Sealed mold = cavity plus the wall on the diameter and the closures on the length; a chamber is listed when its bore is at least the mold diameter plus 2 mm and its length at least the mold length, as in the chamber check of the selection guide. Force = pressure × bore area ÷ 9800, compared with the rated tonnage of each frame. A chamber the mold fits into is not thereby a confirmed configuration. Rubber molds are made to the part on request and are not included with the press. The default densities are the example in the article: the apparent density of one stainless-steel powder (41.4 %) and its density after pressing at 60 MPa (54.1 %). The warm isostatic press can also run cold, to 300 MPa; choose Warm to see its chambers.
