KBr pellet: quantities, thickness and nominal pressure
Choose the die, set the mass of KBr and the sample concentration, and set the force. The calculator gives the sample mass to weigh, an estimated thickness and the nominal pressure on the pellet. It does not predict whether the pellet will be clear.
Die
Start from
The 13 mm starting values (0.1 to 1.0 % sample in 200 to 250 mg KBr, about 8 t under vacuum) are those of a published instrument-maker method for that die size. The 7 mm and 3 mm starting values are that method scaled by die area: estimates to begin from, not validated recipes. Thickness assumes fully dense KBr at 2.75 g/cm³. Clarity depends on dryness, grinding and evacuation, which this calculator does not model.
