Pellet defect map

Pick the defect, then enter the die, the pellet thickness and the pressure at which it appeared. The tool gives the force and the aspect ratio, lists the mechanisms the studies link to that defect and what to test first, and lays out a pressure series below the failing pressure for your die.

What you see

Map to the evidence, not a prescription. The mechanisms and the first tests are the ones in the table of the article, with the studies they come from; about half of those studies, and almost all of the capping and lamination evidence, are of pharmaceutical tablets made on tablet presses or compaction simulators. Pressure is force divided by the bore area; the aspect ratio is thickness divided by diameter. The pressure series is a test plan: its step and length are your choice, and the tool does not say which pressure is right for a powder. The bands of the PressPro™ die pressure chart are for its steel dies at room temperature.
