Force, gauge reading and pressure on the sample

Pick what you know, enter the die, and read the rest. Force is in metric tonnes; nominal pressure on the sample is force × 9800 ÷ die area. Gauge readings are converted with the force range and gauge range printed for each frame. The frame and the die are then checked separately, and the frame is checked the same way whichever value you start from.

The pressure is a nominal average over the die area. The colored bands are those of the PressPro™ die pressure chart for its steel dies; they are catalog guidance and do not replace the rating of your own die. A die-chart band says nothing about the frame: the frame is checked on its own line. Each manual frame is specified by a force range and the gauge range that goes with it, so the end of the gauge range is the rated force; the tool converts with that pair. The formula does not apply to isostatic chambers.
