Product Detail

ALab™ C410 Chemistry-Design Diaphragm Vacuum Pump is an oil-free laboratory vacuum pump. The manufacturer specifies it as the vacuum source for the RE100-Pro and RE100-S distillation systems; it is also used for general oil-free laboratory vacuum duties such as filtration, degassing and vacuum drying, where application suitability depends on vapor compatibility, system configuration and the use of appropriate traps. It reaches an ultimate vacuum of 13 mbar, moves 25 L/min of free air, and is rated for continuous operation with a manufacturer-stated noise level of 50 dB.

Why choose the C410

Oil-free by designDiaphragm operation eliminates pump oil, routine oil changes and oil-mist contamination, and there is no waste oil to dispose of. Solvent vapors still pass through the pump and leave at the exhaust, so they must be trapped, recovered or routed to suitable ventilation.
13 mbar ultimate vacuumA 13 mbar ultimate-vacuum rating provides useful operating margin for routine rotary evaporation of common solvents. Actual working pressure depends on vapor load and system conditions.
Published speed tableThe manufacturer publishes pumping speed at six pressures from 1000 down to 280 mbar, which allows transparent preliminary sizing against a real system volume instead of a single headline number.
Continuous-duty ratingRated for continuous operation with a 95 W motor at 1450 rpm and a manufacturer-stated noise level of 50 dB. Provide free airflow around the housing and keep the exhaust unobstructed.

Match the pump to your system

A vacuum pump has no single “speed”: capacity falls as the pressure drops. Set your system volume and target pressure to read the interpolated pumping speed and an idealized pump-down time from atmosphere, within the 280–950 mbar range covered by the manufacturer’s published data:

Model: the curve is a linear interpolation of the six manufacturer-published pressure/flow pairs (1000–280 mbar). Below 280 mbar the manufacturer publishes no pumping-speed data, so no values are estimated there — the 13 mbar figure is the ultimate-vacuum rating, not a speed. Times integrate the throughput balance t = V ∫ dp / [S(p) · p] from 1000 mbar for a closed, leak-tight, isothermal system; real systems are slower once hose conductance, traps, leaks and evaporating solvent vapor are added. A preliminary teaching tool, not sizing software.

Works with · Distillation system

Built for the RE100 rotary evaporators. The C410 is the matched vacuum source for the RE100-Pro and RE100-S. A programmable vacuum controller can be added between pump and condenser for controlled pressure ramps that can help reduce bumping, together with the vacuum regulator / moisture trap (Cat. No. 18900186) for fine manual trimming and moisture protection. Use an appropriate cold trap or moisture trap when handling condensable vapors, and route solvent-laden exhaust in accordance with your laboratory’s safety procedures.

FAQ

Is 13 mbar deep enough for rotary evaporation?

For routine work with common solvents, yes: ethanol boils near 40 °C at about 178 mbar and water near 40 °C at about 74 mbar, both well above 13 mbar. Note that 13 mbar is the pump’s ultimate-vacuum rating, not a pressure it will hold during evaporation: actual operating pressure depends on vapor load, condenser performance, tubing conductance, system tightness and solvent compatibility. Very high-boiling solvents and short-path work call for a deeper-vacuum pump.

Why a diaphragm pump instead of a rotary-vane pump?

Solvent vapor passes through the pump head during evaporation. In an oil-sealed rotary-vane pump that vapor can dissolve or condense in the oil, reducing oil life and achievable vacuum and potentially carrying solvent-contaminated oil mist into the exhaust; a chemistry-design diaphragm pump has no oil to contaminate and needs no oil changes.

How do I know the pump is big enough for my system?

Compare the speed at your working pressure with the volume you have to evacuate. The tool on this page provides a preliminary idealized comparison based on the manufacturer-published pumping-speed data; allow generous margin over it, because hoses, traps and the solvent vapor load all reduce effective speed.

Can it run all day?

The pump is rated for continuous operation and has a manufacturer-stated noise level of 50 dB with a 95 W motor. Provide free airflow around the housing and keep the exhaust unobstructed.

Which electrical configuration should I order?

US is 110 V / 60 Hz; EU and UK are 220 V / 50 Hz. One voltage, frequency and plug configuration is supplied per unit — check the mains supply at the destination laboratory before ordering.

What hose does it need?

The nozzles are 8 mm. Use vacuum tubing rated for the solvents in use, keep runs short and bores wide, and place a cold trap or moisture trap ahead of the pump when condensable vapor load is high.
