ALab™ DMS5-340M Magnetic Hotplate Stirrer
Product Detail
The ALab™ DMS5-340M Magnetic Hotplate Stirrer uses a strong magnetic field and is specified as suitable for viscous samples. A Ø135 mm (5 inch) ceramic-coated aluminium plate heats from room temperature to 340 °C in 1 °C steps, and a brushless DC motor stirs 50–1500 rpm in 1 rpm steps with a specified maximum stirring volume of 20 L of water. Speed, temperature and timer information appear together on one LCD. The stirrer supports a PT1000 external temperature sensor with a specified accuracy of ±0.2 °C for measuring liquid temperature.

Protection class: IP42 in the specification table. IP41 appears elsewhere in the product documentation; the final rating is pending confirmation. Power and heating output are given as single figures across the dual 100–120 / 200–240 V range; separate figures for each voltage range are not stated.
Heating modes and thermal safety
Three selectable heating modes are listed: A rapid, B standard and C stable. Thermal protection includes overheating protection at 420 °C, a waste-heat warning that flashes HOT above 50 °C plate temperature and continues to flash after the power is switched off, a settable safety temperature, and two independent safety circuits that monitor the instrument continuously — on overheating or sensor failure the machine reports an error and stops heating, and on a short circuit it cuts the power supply. A safety lock guards against accidental changes to a running setting, and a buzzer sounds on malfunction and at the end of the timer countdown.
These protection features and set points are not a substitute for laboratory procedure. Operate the instrument within your laboratory's risk assessment and supervision requirements.
Configuration and scope of supply
Standard package contents are confirmed in the final sales configuration and order documentation. Please request a written scope of supply with your quotation.
Connection: RS232, with a remote control function available over a PC connection. The protocol, cable and any software requirements are not stated in the current specification and are confirmed on request. Electrical supply: 100–120 / 200–240 V, 50/60 Hz, 650 W total. Sensor: the stirrer supports a PT1000 external temperature sensor with a specified accuracy of ±0.2 °C. Options: a wider accessory range exists for this series; part numbers are not given in the current specification and are confirmed on request. The specified maximum stirrer size (length) is 80 mm.
A five-inch strong-field heating stirrer for viscous samples. The DMS5-340M pairs a Ø135 mm ceramic-coated aluminium plate rated to 340 °C with a strong magnetic field specified as suitable for viscous samples, a specified maximum stirring volume of 20 L of water, and PT1000 sensor support for measuring liquid temperature. Check plate diameter, temperature range and specified maximum stirring volume against your application before ordering.
FAQ
What does the strong magnetic field mean for my samples?
The DMS5-340M uses a strong magnetic field, specified as suitable for viscous samples. Coupling behaviour with any specific medium is not specified, so confirm performance for your own sample viscosity, vessel and stirrer size. The specified maximum stirring volume is 20 L of water and the specified maximum stirrer size (length) is 80 mm.
Does the 20 L maximum stirring volume mean a 20 L vessel fits on the plate?
Not necessarily. The 20 L value is the specified maximum stirring volume for water; it does not establish vessel dimensions or safe vessel loading. Confirm vessel dimensions and stability for your setup; the product specification does not define a supported vessel footprint. The specified maximum stirrer size (length) is 80 mm.
Which temperature sensor does it use, and how do I confirm what ships with it?
The stirrer supports a PT1000 external temperature sensor with a specified accuracy of ±0.2 °C, for measuring liquid temperature. For what is included in the shipment, request a written scope of supply with your quotation — standard package contents are confirmed in the final sales configuration and order documentation.
Is the protection class IP41 or IP42?
The specification table gives IP42. IP41 appears elsewhere in the product documentation. The final rating is pending confirmation, so if the rating matters for your installation please ask us to confirm it in writing before you order.
What happens when the timer reaches zero?
Heating stops and stirring continues, which reduces continued heat exposure after the timer ends. A buzzer sounds at the end of the countdown. This end-of-timer behaviour is not an approval to operate the instrument outside your laboratory's supervision requirements.
Can it be controlled from a computer?
An RS232 data connection is provided and a remote control function is available over a PC connection. The protocol, cable and any software requirements are not stated in the current specification — ask us to confirm what is required for your setup.
What does the ceramic coating do?
The ceramic-coated aluminium disc is specified for corrosion resistance and easy cleaning. Chemical compatibility with specific reagents is not specified in the current technical data; evaluate suitability for the substance, its concentration, the temperature and the contact time in your process.
