Applications for mesoporous carbon are varied and include:
Catalysis. The high surface area and nanoscale features of OMC are useful in developing highly selective catalysts that reduce energy, waste, and costs in many industrial applications.
Biomedicine. Because OMC is nontoxic and inert, it’s especially relevant to improving drug delivery systems and diagnostics.
Adsorbents. The high surface area of OMC makes it an exceptional adsorbent for any number of gases, liquids, and heavy metals. OMC can be used effectively to remove pollutants from water, store gases, and separate biological and pharmaceutical compounds.
Chromatography. With its large pore volume, high surface area, and narrow pore-size distribution, OMC makes a good candidate for size-exclusion chromatography, capillary gas chromatography, proteomics separations, and both normal phase and enantioselective high pressure liquid chromatography.
Supercomputing. OMC provides a large reaction interface, a fast ion transmission channel, excellent conduction, and good thermal and chemical stability, making it an ideal super capacitor or lithium ion electrode material.
